The easy part in describing this most unusual craft is it's shape. Terminology used by witnesses vary from horseshoe, magnet and simply "U" shaped. All of these descriptions easily enable the reader to visualize this craft.
What is somewhat more difficult is the features displayed that are common to the horseshoe type of craft, or rather the lack of features displayed. What we do know is that it's size varies from that of a large aeroplane to several times larger than a jumbo jet.
The main body of this vehicle often appears black and is highly reflective. Several witnesses have been unable to state the exact colour of this large craft due to the object picking up the hues of the surrounding area. The perimeter lighting has been seen to be yellow, yellow-orange and non- blinking. No sound has been heard from the horseshoe craft despite it's habit of low level flight. Again this craft does not appear to bank to turn, but rather, as is common on a vehicle of this size, rotates.
MICHIGAN HORSESHOE SHAPED UFO
ANN ARBOR -- Daniel C. Hoppin writes that on Saturday, September 9, 2000, my brother and girlfriend were walking down a crowded main street around 9:30 at night. I saw a family pointing up at the sky and overheard the little girl ask her dad "What is that?" to which the father responded, "I don't know, we've never seen anything like it."
I looked up and saw an object moving north, high overhead. At first I thought it was some kind of odd shaped balloon, but as I watched, it turned. The object was a red/ochre color, and shaped like a horseshoe, with the open end facing the back. At this point I drew my comrades attention to the object, and they watched it as well. The night was hazy, and the object wasn't lit, so it was not obvious unless you were looking right at it. My brother thought that the reddish color was actually a reflection of the downtown lights.
We watched the object slowly move north straight above the street, until it faded away in the haze. A plane traveling a similar flight path flew over at what seemed the same altitude. We estimate the UFO was half a football field or 150 feet in length. We heard no noise. There are several blimps that fly out of Ann Arbor, but what we saw wasn't a blimp, airplane, helicopter, or flock of geese, it was solid, and like the little girls daddy said, "I've never seen anything like it."
"I am a student at Emerson College in Boston. I was driving in early afternoon on the Massachusetts Pike on my way home to Connecticut on October 26, 1998, when I noticed something odd in the sky.
I saw what appeared to be a meteor falling toward the earth. It was glowing and emitted a large smoke trail. I immediately glanced to my left and saw what appeared to be a possible military aircraft emitting similar smoke trails flying toward it. The craft had a red light at it's head. I thought it was a missile trying to intercept the meteor. The presumed "meteor" must have been the same type of aircraft, for it didn't plunge toward earth. It arced over the horizon out of my sight.
But my attention soon changed to our moon that was visible at this point during the day. To the right of the moon sat a silver horseshoe shaped object. The craft's body was erect and it's two ends each came to a sharp point. It looked like the moon in sliver form in three dimensions, but it didn't move. It was a few miles away and must have been massive.
I rolled down my window and began pointing. The other cars on the highway slowed with me, the drivers seemed to see what I was seeing. There were more of those military jets flying around. As I drove I saw the object from several different perspectives. There was a shadow on the side facing away from the sun.
I became very worried. As I attempted to discern its identity, it was not clouds, since they moved away and through the object as it remained stationary. It was not a weather balloon. The distinctive tips were pointing upward and the object was stationary. It was not like any aircraft I have ever seen. It sent shivers down my spine. I watched it for at least ten minutes. I continued to see the weird military jets for the next half hour.
NEW YORK CITY BLACK DISC
MANHATTAN -- On Tuesday, June 27, 2000, five witnesses observed a partial black ring which they described as a flattened "U" shape slowly moving overhead across the sky towards the northeast at 8:00 PM.
The sky was light in the early summer evening when five witnesses saw a donut or "U" shaped craft. It was different from the sky and was likely a light colored material which was blocking our view of the rest of the dark ring, thereby creating the initial impression of the flattened "U" shape. All I can say is, the way it looked and the way it moved it was not tumbling or changing orientation.
It was a black partial ring with a light sky-colored or perhaps shiny reflective material transmitting the color of the sky. It filled the interior and seemingly blocked our view of the rest of the black ring, giving a black flattened "U" shape moving slowly, steadily, and solidly across the sky.
I have seen nor heard of no other which quite fits the same description, although I have been studying this field for several decades. It is hard to determine the size, but I would guess it was a bit smaller than a 747 aircraft at 3 or 4000 feet up. There were five of us watching the object as it flew over lower-mid-Manhattan heading east-northeast. The consensus was we saw a UFO.
